Melt butter in cast iron over medium-low heat. This works to melt the butter as well as grease the cast iron.
Preheat the oven to 325ºF.
Pour the melted butter into a mixing bowl. Add sugar and brown sugar. Combine and then allow to cool before mixing in the eggs and vanilla.
Add flour, salt, and baking soda to the wet ingredients and stir until everything is incorporated. Fold in chocolate chips.
