Free Colorful Fall Leaf Crochet Pattern: Step-By-Step Picture Tutorial
Once in a while, I have an idea that requires a cute little crochet project. I search for patterns that just don’t quite fit the bill so I created this Fall Leaf Crochet Pattern to use for all my autumn leaf desires! These fall leaves are part of an applique series that I did for my daughter’s monthly photos when she was a baby (see photo toward the bottom of the page). If you’re looking for another fall-themed applique, here’s my Pumpkin Crochet Applique.

Materials Needed:
Fall colored yarn! I used I Love This Cotton yarn from Hobby Lobby. I love it when they have their every other week sale and always buy it during that time to save a little money. Here are the colors I used:
- I love this cotton: Red
- I love this cotton: Glowing (Antique Gold would be more muted/rustic)
- I love this cotton: Brown
- I love this cotton: Curry
- G/4.25mm hook– You can use whatever size hook you want here because the size of the end products is totally up to you.
- Small Scissors– I love scissors like this with a cover because when I toss them into my crochet bag I am not afraid I’ll accidentally stab myself when I’m rummaging through to find them!
- Tapestry Needle/Yarn Needle– While you can use a crochet hook to attach your pieces together and weave in your ends, it is so much easier with a yarn needle.

Uses for your Fall Leaf Crochet Pattern
These cute little leaves can be used as small coasters if you glue a piece of felt or cork to the bottom of them. They can also be used in other projects like appliques for bags, headbands, sweaters, etc. Making a little color-matching game for toddlers with these would also be fun. You could glue a colored piece of felt on the back side of each leaf and have the child turn them over to make a memory match game. The appliques in this series would be nice as a little table decoration during various holidays and seasons. Just lay them out over the table or use them as place cards for a little personalized touch.
If you have a baby and are looking for monthly photo ideas, use these appliques in their photos like I did! Taking monthly photos for the first 12 months of your baby’s life has become a super popular thing to do so I decided to get creative with this little one and crochet a seasonal applique for the photo.
My older daughter and I had so much fun deciding what to crochet next and experimenting with patterns and colors. Then of course we had to choose an outfit to fit the bill as well. It’s safe to say I spent most of my crochet time that year making little appliques and a lot of people were missing their would-be crocheted Christmas presents.
