Give the Gift of Homemade: 5 Things You Can Make
I love giving gifts around the holiday time. There is nothing better than making a gift and seeing the smile and excitement on a loved one’s face when they open it! It means so much more when I give or receive a homemade gift because I know that person put their time and love into it. I put together a list of 5 Homemade Gifts that you can make this holiday season. Plus, I threw in the queen of homemade gifts as a bonus at the bottom. They are inexpensive and your friends and family will love them.
If you try any of these homemade gifts please comment at the bottom of this post and let me know. If you have other handmade gift ideas please share those too so we can all get some new ideas.
Cookies in a Jar
We gave these adorable cookie/brownie-in-a-jar gifts away last year at Christmas time and it was a hit. I got so many pictures or my friends and family making cookies and brownies together. It was so easy to make and it requires very little craftiness. This includes the recipe you need to follow to make the gifts, the recipe your recipient needs, and instructions on attaching a personalized tag. There are three recipes to choose from in this post: Reese’s Pieces cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and brownies.
Personalized Scrabble Tile Decor
I LOVE these personalized Scrabble tiles. They really gained popularity in recent years and for good reason. If you have a Cricut or another cutting machine, making these wall decor tiles is a must. It is a wall decoration that never goes out of style. Beware: If you make these Scrabble tiles for a family that is not done having kids, you’ll be making more when they decide to add to their family. Ask me how I know 🤣 This project might be a little more advanced and will take a bit of time so don’t wait on this one.
Jams & Jellies
I love making jams and jellies to give away during the holiday season. They are simple but thoughtful gifts to give away and people just get so excited to receive such a sweet treat. If you have a water bath canner and want to whip up some of these, it will be a crowd-pleaser for sure. If you don’t have a canner you can make freezer jam/jelly.
There are countless jellies you can make if you’re not into apple jelly! Or go a step further and try a Canned Apple Pie Filling Recipe.
Sugar Scrub
Sugar scrubs are so luxurious and are not difficult to make at all. You will certainly impress your friends and family when you give these away. The sugar scrub I made in this recipe used dandelion-infused olive oil and tallow. If you don’t happen to have dandelion-infused oil on hand you can use regular olive oil or another liquid oil.
You can also make other skincare products like salves, balms, or soaps with similar ingredients. Some are more beginner-friendly than others.
Wine Bottle Decor
Do you like to upcycle? You’re in luck if you do. These are so adorable and there are endless options for personalization. The wine bottle decor I made was beach-themed because I lived on the NC coast at the time and wanted to be a little beachy. Give this a try if you have some extra wine bottles around!
I’ve also made wine bottle decorations that say HOME, one letter on each bottle. These sit in my sister’s house right now and I smile whenever I see them!
BONUS: The Queen of Homemade Gifts- Baked Goods
I don’t know one person who would complain about getting a homemade baked good as a holiday gift! What a great way to involve your kids in holiday giving too without spending a lot of money. Spend time together with your kids and enjoy giving the yummy treat. Here’s my Chocolate Chip Banana Muffin recipe for an easy idea. You can double or triple the batch and separate them into cute little bags or boxes. Plus, if you need your bananas to ripen quickly, check out the quick tips in the post.
If you aren’t in the mood to handcraft your gifts this year, check out some of our soaps! They may not be homemade by you, but they are homemade by me.
Thanks for checking out my homemade gifts! I know you and your family will enjoy making these just as much as your friends will enjoy receiving them. Be careful though, when you let your friends and family know what you are capable of, they might start demanding more homemade goodies all year round. 😉
