Easy Santa Hat Applique Crochet Pattern for Christmas Crafts

This is the third pattern in my series of small appliques that I used for my baby’s monthly photos! I’ve shared two fall-themed appliques and now I’m jumping to the Santa Hat Applique Crochet Pattern. This is such a simple and cute pattern for a Santa hat. There are a lot of 3D ones out there that are great as ornaments or elf-on-a-shelf hats, but this one is perfect for what I wanted because it is a flat applique. Materials Needed:

I Love This Cotton: White
I Love This Cotton: Red or Burnt Sienna
H/6mm hook– You can use whatever size hook you want here because the size of the end products is totally up to you.
Small Scissors– I love scissors like this with a cover because when I toss them into my crochet bag I am not afraid I’ll accidentally stab myself when I’m rummaging through to find them!
Tapestry Needle/Yarn Needle– While you can use a crochet hook to attach your pieces together and weave in your ends, it is so much easier with a yarn needle.

Santa Hat Applique Crochet Pattern

With white, make a magic circle and work 6 sc in it. Slst to the first sc and fasten off. Leave a long tail to sew this onto the hat.

Row 1: With white yarn, make a slip knot, and ch 10, turn.

Row 2: starting in the 2nd chain from the hook, 1 sc in all sts. Chain 1, turn. (9)

Row 3: sc in each st. Change the color to red. Chain 1, turn. (9)

Row 4 & 5: sc in each st. Chain 1, turn. (9)

Row 6: sc2tog, sc in next 5 sts, sc2tog. Chain 1, turn. (7)

Row 7: sc in each stitch across. Chain 1, turn. (7)

Row 8: sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog. Chain 1, turn. (5)

Row 9: sc in each stitch across. Chain 1, turn. (5)

Row 10: sc2tog, sc in next st, sc2tog. Chain 1, turn. (3)

Row 11: 1 dc, dc2tog. Chain 2, turn. (2)

Row 12: 1 dc, 1 sc. Chain 1, turn. (2)

Row 13: 1 sc, 1 dc. Chain 1, turn (2)

Row 14: 2 sc. Chain 1, turn. (2)

Row 15: 2 sc. Finish off. (2)

Using a tapestry needle, sew the circle to the hat so the Santa hat has a little pom pom. You can also use a hot glue gun to glue the pom pom on the hat. I do this often when it’s not going to be tossed around a lot.
