Beach Wine Bottle Decor
I was so excited to get into my creative side a few days ago and make these adorable beach-themed wine bottle decorations. They are so cute and super easy to make. And the best part might be the first step — you must drink the wine before you can do the upcycling craft! 😆
If you’re into long explanations (and you want to dive into my amazing personality 😉), read on for how I did my wine bottle decor! If you’re into the short and sweet version scroll to the bottle for a quick list.
I’m a picky wine drinker but I finally found this watermelon flavored wine that I LOVE from a local North Carolina Winery called Country Squire Winery. When I have an empty bottle I wash it out and stick it on top of my cabinets. I don’t know about you, but I may or may not be a craft supply hoarder. Getting the label off seemed like it was going to be difficult so I googled how to remove labels. The directions I found said to soak the bottles in water & baking soda for about 30 minutes. Then the label should come right off. Turns out I didn’t need to do that because my labels easily peeled off. Just in case yours aren’t quite as easy, try the water & baking soda.
Paint, Paint, Paint
Next, I painted the bottles! I used chalk paint because that’s what I had on hand. I found that I needed to put it on thick the first time because when I tried to put on a second coat, the first coat would easily come off. I’m not sure if it was because of the wine bottle or the paint. Next time I might try a different kind of paint or I may spice it up a little more and pour the paint inside the bottle so the color is protected by the inside of the bottle!
When the bottles were drying I painted the letters. These were just some wood letters I had lying around (remember I’m a craft supplies hoarder). I painted them the opposite colors as my bottles so there would be a little contrast!
As soon as the paint dried I sprayed a little Mod Podge on the bottles and letters to give them a little seal. Matte is what I used but you can use glossy if you want it to shine!
Glue & Decorate the Wine Bottles
After the wine bottles are dry, glue on the twine around the bottom, top, or wherever else you want! Get creative here, they don’t all have to be the same and you can change it up a little bit if you want to. I did a small strip at a time with the hot glue gun as I wrapped the wine bottles.
I glued the letters on next at a bit of an angle. Depending on how big your letters are or what material they are made of you can do this a little differently. Mine stick out a little bit because they can’t form the shape of the wine bottle but if you cut vinyl letters they would stick right to your bottle.
When everything is glued, get out your shells or other cute decorations that you want to put on the wine bottles. I glued some on the twine and hung some around the neck of the bottle. Spice it up a little so they each have their own flair!
