3 Creative Mason Jar Gifts: Recipes & Free Printable
I have received so many compliments on the Mason Jar Gifts that I gave out around Christmas last year. It was so fun to receive pictures of my friends and their kiddos baking these cookies and brownies together. I’ll be making these super easy gifts again next year and adding in my Oatmeal Cookie Mason Jar Recipe to the mix! If you’re looking for more From Scratch Desserts, look no further.

Reese’s Pieces Chocolate Cookies
We loved these Reese’s Pieces cookies so much, and it only took a small adjustment to make them good for mason jar gifts.
- Add dry ingredients to a quart-sized mason jar one at a time, packing the ingredients as you go. Start with flour, salt, and baking soda, then brown sugar, sugar, and cocoa powder. Put Reese’s Pieces on top.
- Grab your fun and festive paper and your recipe card/tag to finish up your gift.
- When ready to make cookies, preheat the oven to 350º. Scoop out the Reese’s Pieces and set aside. Empty the dry ingredients into a bowl. Add the wet ingredients and mix until combined. The dough will be soft. Fold in Reese’s Pieces.
- Form dough into 24 equal balls. Arrange on the cookie sheet and bake for 7-9 minutes. Allow to cool and enjoy!
M&M Mason Jar Cookies
These M&M cookies are so delicious, and the M&Ms make them look really pretty in the jar. You can do different colored M&Ms based on the holiday or season. I personally think there were too many M&Ms in the cookies (didn’t think I’d ever say that) but maybe you like a lot! Along with the recipe, the blogger offers a free printable (different from the one I used) to add to your jars, giving them a cute finishing touch.
When my daughter made these cookies, she scooped out the M&Ms and chocolate chips before she mixed everything in. This made it easier to get all the clumps out, and then she added the M&Ms and chips.
Mason Jar Brownies
These brownies are easy and delicious. In this blog, the writer mixes all the ingredients together and then she puts them in the jar, I kept them separate. Either way, it works! I personally like the look of everything in layers.
My 9-year-old daughter enjoyed helping me make these. It is a super easy gift that kids can be hands-on with and feel ownership over! I always feel more excited to give gifts that I have made and I can imagine kids feel the same! I love getting her involved in making and giving gifts. She could even do a project like this independently if she wanted to make these again.
Mason Jar Gift Tag
These tags are super cute, but I can’t take credit for making them! I downloaded this adorable mason jar template. There are a few different sizing options. You can simply download and print, and then write in your recipe, or you can get a little fancy with it.
I uploaded the template into canva.com and typed in the info I wanted, so I didn’t have to write it a bunch of times! If I were only giving away a few, I might have handwritten some for a more personal touch.
Aren’t these little mason jar tags the cutest?! I couldn’t resist using them for my mason jar cookie and brownie gifts.
Tips for Success
• Depending on the recipe, you have to pack the ingredients down using a spoon in the jar so everything fits! This is especially true for the M&M cookies.
• When you’re ready to bake, scoop or pour out the M&Ms, chocolate chips, or Reese’s Pieces before you mix the wet and dry ingredients. This makes it a lot easier to mix everything together. Then you can fold in your chips.
• Include directions and the other ingredients to add to your mason jar recipe. Check out the blog posts tagged above to see gift tag options.
• Cut out a piece of paper or fabric to put on the lid of your mason jar to make it a little more festive. I like using scrapbooking paper like this. Finish it off with a ribbon!

FAQs About Mason Jar Cookies
When stored in a cool, dry place, your cookie mix jars will stay fresh for up to 6 months. Be sure the lid is sealed tightly to prevent moisture from getting in.
Yes! You can swap them for chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, or M&Ms. This makes it easy to adapt the recipe for different occasions or allergies.
No, the mix is shelf-stable as long as it’s dry. Once the wet ingredients (like butter and eggs) are added for baking, any leftovers should be refrigerated.
A quart-size (32 oz) mason jar works perfectly for layering these ingredients. It gives enough space for the mix and looks pretty when gifted.
Add a fabric square or ribbon around the lid, and include a gift tag with the baking instructions. You can also tie on a small spatula or cookie cutter for an extra special touch.
Yes! Simply replace the all-purpose flour with a 1:1 gluten-free blend, and make sure the Reese’s Pieces and chocolate chips are dairy-free certified if needed.
Include ingredients that need to be added to the dry mix, instructions on how to mix everything together, what temperature to bake, and how long to bake. Plus, add a personalized message if you want.

Is it baking soda as listed in the ingredients or is it baking powder as stated in the directions?
