Homemade Hot Pockets your Whole Family will Love!

When I told my girls we were going to start eating less processed foods and get away from foods wrapped in plastics one of the biggest upsets was the thought that we would never have hot pockets as a simple snack again!

YUP… it was devastating news to all of us! For them, they loved the way they tasted. For me, I loved the convenience of a quick snack.

I searched all over the internet and found some really awesome ideas but had not ventured out to try them.

One day while making tortillas I had an idea pop in my head and VIOLA!!! Our version of homemade Hot Pockets was born.

This recipe is amazing not only in flavor but it is not as hard as one might think.

So yes, these babies are made from tortillas. BUT the beauty is – they do not taste anything like tortillas. So I am able to make 2 different things from one recipe.

In my world, this is a total win!! Making things from scratch takes time. So finding any way to cut corners yet still get a good meal is a win in my book!

TIP: Don’t skimp on the cheese! Remember it melts down.

The best part of these is they are super fun to make with your kids! Everyone in my house loves to jump in and create their own. They get so excited to make food at this age. I am hoping they keep that excitement as they grow older.

They love simple snack recipes like this the most because get to add whatever they like to the inside and as much cheese and sauce as they want. This for me is a double win. It really helps when it comes to picky eaters. (And that they are!) Letting them be a part of the process really gets them excited about the food they are about to eat.

Instructions

  • Roll out a golf ball size of dough into a thin oval shape
  • Drop one spoonful of sauce onto the dough and using the back of the spoon spread it around leaving an inch of dough around the outside of the edge not covered. Use more sauce if needed.
  • Add cheese and toppings to one side of the dough. Don't skimp on the cheese if only adding cheese. Remember it melts down.
  • Dip a finger into the milk and wipe it around the edge of the dough that has the ingredients on it.
  • Pull the half of the dough that is empty onto the othe half and press the dough together. Here I have found that folding the edges of the dough in on iteself helps it stick together.
  • Optional – Brush top of the pocket with milk and sprinkle with your favorite pizza seasoning.
